Although most people do not think of photographs as being fragile, they really are.  If you are not careful with their treatment they can become bent or torn.  In the past when that happened, they were ruined.  The good news is that modern technology and photo restoration makes it possible to have damaged photos repaired

Unless you take great care with their pictures, it is possible that you have quite a collection of damaged photos.  Corners can become bent, or the picture could become creased, and over time, that crease could become a tear.  Unfortunately, damaged photos are not as enjoyable to look at as when they were in mint condition.  The tears and creases become distracting, and affect how you feel about the photograph.

Damaged photos may also occur through fading.  Over time the chemicals that were used in developing the picture cause the photo to fade and turn a brownish tint.  Prolonged exposure to sunlight makes this process happen at a more accelerated rate.  Details become so faded that they are no longer discernable.  The intricate piping on a wedding cake is lost and can no longer be seen in the photo.

Fortunately there are photo repair specialists that can reverse all of these problems with damaged photos, and more.  Most photographs can be repaired to a point that anyone that was unaware that the original had been damaged would never be able to tell that the current picture had been repaired.  All traces of the damaged or soiled areas can be repaired, and  the parts that had faded can be restored. Unless the photo has been so badly damaged that missing parts cannot be replicated, it can be restored to its original condition.  In fact, in some instances the damaged photos can be repaired and restored better than when it was first taken.

If there is something in the original picture that you are not happy with, it can be changed in the restored picture.  If one of the people had their eyes closed at the instant the photo was shot, that can be fixed in the repaired copy.  You have the option of changing backgrounds, having unwanted objects or hand gestures removed.  You could even decide to have more than one photograph combined into one picture.  If you would like to convert a picture from black and white to color, that option is available as well.

Having damaged photos does not have to mean the end of your enjoyment.  There are many options available today that range from simple photo repairs to advanced photo enhancements.  With the available techniques you can enjoy your photos for years to come.
